Lisa Teryl, Senior Attorney, Co-founder, Author
Lisa Teryl is senior legal counsel, legal mediator and arbitrator with Teryl Scott Lawyers Inc. (1995-present). She has been a practicing lawyer for 25 years. Lisa is passionate about changing the legal landscape to empower laypeople with the law and to make the law more accessible and therefore more fair to Nova Scotians.
Lisa has a deep knowledge of divorce law how to manage tough conflicts. Using this experience, she developed the Divorcing Well mediation program. She also has extensive experience in administrative, labour/employment and human rights law, which reduces the time and resources required to resolve workplace conflicts.
She is a member of the ADRWeb Inc. of Canada and applies these arbitration and mediation skills to workplaces in conflict and to families who are separating and interested in Divorcing Well™.
Lisa graduated from the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University. In 2015 she was an honoree at an Extraordinary Alumnae Lunch from the Schulich School of Law.
Lisa Teryl is a member of the Nova Scotia Barrister’s Society.
She served for six years as senior legal counsel at the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission.
She is a member of the national mediators and arbitrators association: ADRWeb.
Lisa serves as a volunteer for the Canadian Rights and Freedoms Centre, a non-profit that promotes and protects human rights in Canada.

Shawn Scott, Lawyer and Co-founder
Shawn Scott is the co-founder of Teryl Scott and has his own family litigation firm at Brookshire Law Office, located in the same building as Teryl Scott Lawyers Inc. For clients and customers who require a trial family law lawyer, we engage Shawn at Brookshire Law Office.
Shawn has been a family trial lawyer since 1996. He graduated from Queen’s University, Ontario with a Doctor’s degree in Jurisprudence in 1994. He is a free speech advocate and a member of the Canadian Bar Association.
Jack Pham, Investigator
Jack Pham is a workplace investigator with Teryl Scott Lawyers Inc. He specializes in human rights complaints, particularly racial discrimination and sexual harassment issues. Jack has handled many high profile workplace racial and sexual harassment allegations. His investigations are marked by their sensitivity, neutrality, thoroughness and fairness.
Jack has worked for the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission as a mediator and investigator and for the Toronto Transit Commission as a human rights consultant and an investigator. He earned his law degree from the University of Queensland in Australia and is currently completing his bar examinations to be admitted to the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society and the Law Society of Ontario.
Justine Lucas, Legal Drafter
Justine Lucas is the Halifax law firm’s legal drafter. She is a graduate from Dalhousie’s Schulich School of Law and currently an articled clerk (lawyer apprentice). She will be admitted to the Nova Scotian Bar in June 2020.
Justine assists senior counsel to prepare legal documents such as separation agreements and estate documents. Justine is from the Acadian community of Chéticamp in Cape Breton and speaks fluent French.
Justine graduated from Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Forensic Psychology at Saint Francis Xavier University. She was co-chair of the Dalhousie Feminist Legal Association. She was also the fundraising executive for the Law Needs Feminism Because national forum in Halifax.
